THE BRUTAL TRUTH
Enter Shikari - A Flash Flood of Colour
At first glance of Enter Shikari, I didn’t think much of their style or sound from the first two albums. It was never anything bad, but it didn’t strike me as downright brutal either, leaving me in a “take it or leave it” state of mind where I was able to easily walk away from it without regret. They came across as another British electronicore with no redeeming qualities of sound that made them unique. This is why I was so amazed by their 2012 release of A Flash Flood of Colour.
Writing a solid album both musically & lyrically, their electronic post-hardcore sounds have tapped in the dubstep crowds interest with seizure inducing breakdowns that just skim the surface of dubstep, leaving you with just a taste of it on your ear palette, enough to seduce you into the sound without over homogenizing its altered sound effects that just becoming droned out & lifeless. They’ve also taken a very arousing & a poetically-political-punk approach lyrically that captures the burning passion inside of you for change in the world around you as it is today. While they’ve always had some political notions within their writings before, this time around, a level of eloquent reflection & accepted wisdom to the natures of which they speak, spewing profound ideas of solidarity & imagination that invigorates your emotional sensations.
With the three year gap from their last album, I believe time is what made this album different, allowing for Enter Shikari to really tap into their artistic side, experimenting with a few new creative approaches to their sound & finding something they truly stand behind without conviction. From the beginning, this album will capture your auditory sensations & given the proper allowance, create beautiful tapestries of reverberation within your minds. Check it out for yourself on Spotify for free; touring Europe for now, but have open dates in the summer for a possible US tour appearance. Until then, enjoy their latest single, Arguing With Thermometers.

Harking back to a day when Kerry had hair, War Ensemble kicked off one of the most brutal Slayer albums of all time, Seasons in the Abyss. With tracks like Blood Red, Expendable Youth, & Dead Skin Mask, it was easy to see why parents did not approve, but since when have parents ever approved of anything good. A life altering album for most & one that truly shows the speed that Slayer was able to sustain through the years like no others. Jeff & Kerry both brought the top of their game to this album & didn’t hesitate for a second. Lombardo brought a rhythm beat as though Satan himself learned to play a badass instrument & threw the fiddle to the hounds of hell. And next time you’re throwing fists in the pit, remember this song & it will grant you immunity from pain!
